This match is so special because of so many reasons some of them are:- Compared to the first test, both teams had new captains, England made their highest run chase in test cricket, the highest run chase against India by any team in test, Bumrah’s world record for the highest run in an over of test and many more.

By chasing 378 runs England set a record for the 8th highest run chase in test cricket after India’s 387 run chase against England at Chennai in 2008. But the highest run chase in test cricket is set by West Indies against mighty Steve waugh's Australia at Antigua. Australia sets the hosts a very difficult target of 418 runs to win. But in return West Indies chased that target losing 7 wickets with the help of Brian Lara’s terrific 60, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s superb centuries, and finally on the final day Omari banks and vasbert Drakes useful runs. So this run chase is still the greatest and unbreakable record in test cricket so far.

2nd highest chase on English soil:-

After Australia’s 404 runs chase against England Headingley on 1948 this is the highest run chase on English soil. We can give this run chase credit to Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow but they are not getting the complete credit for winning as James Anderson 5 wickets in 1st innings and Captain Ben stokes 4 wickets in 2nd innings also play an important role in England’s win. But we have to appreciate India’s performance also.

It has been 45 years since Australia's Bob Simpson's team chased 339 runs and won the series with 3-2 in 1977. Until this run chase by England, India has never lost a match if they give a target of over 350 in test cricket. We cannot say that India’s bowling was very poor. There were plenty of opportunities for India but unfortunately, we didn’t get success.

1st team to chase 250+ runs in 4 consecutive tests:-

In short, this is a rare and special record set by the England team. After Ben Stokes became captain and Brendon McCullum became head coach, England became one of the toughest teams to beat. Joe Root's consistency and Johanny Bairstow's finishing skills are the keys for mighty England.

In the first, second, and third tests against New Zealand, England chased 277,299 and 296 runs respectively. One of the best run chases was 299 because in this match England lost their 4 wickets before 100 runs and from there Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes best 5 th wicket partnership made England chase down 299 mark.
